The biggest myth of modern nutrition: healthy plant-based diets
In this blog, I want to share a different perspective on the increasingly popular plant-based diet (whether it be veganism or whatever form of vegetarianism). It’s important for us to understand that biases can form in many areas of nutrition. I will first discuss the history of modern vegetarianism. Then I will discuss some recent scientific controversies not often discussed in mainstream media, and will end off with some of the downsides of plant-based diets.
Throwback Thursday: 18-Year-Old Mike McDonald Wins Two Poker Awards
The "Bank of Timex" has evolved over the years and eventually led Mike McDonald to form PokerShares. But McDonald wasn't always the businessman and entrepreneur we know today. Once upon a time, McDonald was just a boy that popped up in the poker scene and took everyone by surprise. In this Throwback Thursday we look back at a baby-faced McDonald just shy of his 19th birthday. In 2008, McDonald won two awards at the European Poker Awards: The People's Choice Award and the Best Overseas Player.
Georgiev, Simms Shine on Day 1 of the 2017 Cash Game Festival Bulgaria
Day 1 of the 2017 Cash Game Festival Bulgaria was a big success with tons of action and fun emanating throughout the poker room at Platinum Casino located off the boardwalk in Sunny Beach. The day began with players heading away from the beautiful sunshine and weather and head to the casino for welcome drinks at 5:00 p.m. Many familiar faces were about along with many new faces and online qualifiers. About an hour later, the first televised feature table kicked off at €1/€2 no-limit hold'em.
Lawrence Bayley Leads After Day 2AB of WSOP Main Event
Day 2ab of the 2017 World Series of Poker Main Event is in the books! After five levels of play, around 1,100 players remain from the 2,219 that began on Tuesday. The fields from Days 1a and 1b remained separate, and bagging the biggest stack from each flight were Mickey Craft (608,100 from the 1a flight) and Lawrence Bayley (618,000 from the 1b flight). Bayley had the third largest stack to begin Day 2ab and chipped up early to remain near the top of the chip counts throughout.
Tom McEvoy Reflects on Early Days of the World Series of Poker Main Event
When Tom McEvoy won the World Series of Poker Main Event in 1983, ‘Grand Rapids Tom’ (as he was known) was awarded $540,000 and the famous gold bracelet. The basic facts are known from that year, but what you may not know is that McEvoy won the longest Main Event heads-up battle the tournament has ever seen, even now, 34 years on from his win.

Jens Lakemeier Wins First WSOP Bracelet in $2,500 Big Bet Mix
In a span of fewer than 20 hands, Jens Lakemeier single-handedly brought Event #59: $2,500 Big Bet Mix from five players down to one to take down his first World Series of Poker gold bracelet. Lakemeier started the final day as the chip leader but very quickly fell from that pole position. As soon as he regained the lead, though, he put the pedal to the metal and, with his aggressive play, removed each of his final four opponents.
Andres Korn Becomes Second Argentinian to Win WSOP Gold
Andres Korn just became the second-ever WSOP bracelet winner from Argentina, the first being Ivan Luca in 2015. Korn beat out a field of 623 players to win Event #56: $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em for $618,285 and the elusive gold bracelet. Korn nearly doubled his recorded career tournament earnings with this score, and it was around six times the payday of his previous biggest cash to date. But for Korn, the win was less about the money. “The bracelet weighs so much more," he said.
10 Tips for Sit & Go Success: Middle Stage Strategy
Last time, we discussed beginner strategy for the early levels of a sit & go. This week we will explore how that strategy changes as we enter the middle stage of the tournament. I will define the middle stage as the level where the average effective stack is around 20 big blinds or less with at least five players remaining. Your main goal in the middle stage is to preserve your fold equity by shoving and calling correctly.
