Abstract Purpose: Visceral white adipose tissue (vWAT) accumulation causes systemic inflammation, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and senescent cell accumulation that are risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Visceral fat removal (VFR) improves metabolism and reduces pro-inflammatory cytokines. We hypothesized that VFR removal in AD mice would improve metabolism and cognition.

1. Introduction A characteristic of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other age-related, neurodegenerative diseases, is the accumulation of oligomers or aggregates of misfolded proteins in or around neuronal cells. In AD, there is extracellular accumulation of and plaque formation by β amyloid peptide (Aβ), and intracellular fibril formations containing misfolded, hyper-phosphorylated TAU (p-TAU) proteins (Muchowski, 2002; Muchowski and Wacker, 2005; Gidalevitz et al., 2006).

1. Introduction In recent years the SARS-CoV-2 and the COVID-19 have become a global health threat. The most common COVID-19 symptoms are nonspecific and occur in many other infectious diseases. The course of COVID-19 can vary from mild to severe, up to death (Umakanthan et al., 2020); as of July 19, 2023, there are 6,951,677 COVID-19 deaths worldwide according to WHO data.
