Republican candidate Christy Peterson did not respond to multiple interview requests. Relatively little information is available about her policies and background. On her X account, she has posted in support of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, which would impose strict voter ID requirements and preempt state registration processes. She has also called the Democratic Socialists of America extreme, comparing the movement to communism.

Diana DeGette has served in the congressional seat for Denver and pockets of Arapahoe County since 1997. But earlier this year, she was ousted in the primary by challenger Melat Kiros. Her victory was part of an anti-incumbent, progressive-led wave that’s happening across the country, one that put Denver in the national political spotlight.
