Protective effect of aqueous extract of Perilla frutescens on tert-butyl hydroperoxide-induced oxidative hepatotoxicity in rats.
Abstract <p>The leaves of perilla [Perilla frutescens (L.) Britt. var. japonica (Hassk.) Hara] are often used in Asian gourmet food. The object of this study was to evaluate the protective effects of an aqueous extract of perilla leaves on the tert-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BHP)-induced oxidative injury observed in rat livers. The treatment of the hepatocytes with the perilla leaf extract (PLE) significantly reversed the t-BHP-induced cell cytotoxicity and lipid peroxidation.

Study on SARS-CoV-2 infection in middle-aged and elderly population infected with hepatitis virus: a cohort study in a rural area of northeast China
In the context of China’s transition from “dynamic zero-COVID policy” to “reopening after lockdown”, our study of a high-risk cohort comprising hepatitis virus-infected middle-aged and elderly individuals revealed that most participants experienced mild SARS-CoV-2 infection within the short period of time, with no observed progression of hepatitis. Higher level of neutralizing antibody and IgG was detected in COVID-19 patients, particularly in symptomatic cases.

Design of a hazard prediction system with intelligent multimodal fusion based on artificial intelligence & internet of things technology: taking a crib as an example
With the development of Artificial Intelligence & Internet of Things (AIoT), the combination of artificial intelligence and Internet of Things technology has provided new possibilities for young parents to solve the problem of caring for their babies. In modern society, young parents face work pressure and difficulties in infant care (Honghui et al., 2020). Leaving the baby alone in the crib may pose potential risks, causing confusion and challenges for parents.
The impact of history of depression and access to weapons on suicide risk assessment: a comparison of ChatGPT-3.5 and ChatGPT-4
The aim of the current study was to assess whether ChatGPT-3.5 and ChatGPT-4 incorporate the risk factors of history of depression and access to weapons in their assessment of suicide risk (i.e., the outcome variables) and to assess whether ChatGPT-4 demonstrates a better consideration of these factors than does ChatGPT-3.5. The study offers a unique contribution to the literature by evaluating ChatGPT’s ability to assess suicide risk in the context of history of depression and access to...
Research overview on the genetic mechanism underlying the biosynthesis of polysaccharide in tuber plants
Polysaccharides play a vital role in the growth and development of tuber plants. They can be found in the form of starch, cellulose, and pectin, and are crucial for the morphology, growth, development, and defense of tuber plants. These sugar chains are formed by glycosidic bonds and consist of more than 10 monosaccharides. Homo-polysaccharides, like starch and cellulose, are made up of the same monosaccharide, while heteropolysaccharides, such as gum arabic, contain different monosaccharides.

Community recovery of benthic macroinvertebrates in a stream influenced by mining activity: Importance of microhabitat monitoring
Cite Display options Display options Format AbstractPubMedPMID Abstract The decrease in freshwater biodiversity owing to anthropogenic disturbances such as mining activity is a global challenge; hence, there is an urgent need for systematic approaches to continuously monitor such disturbances and/or the recovery of biodiversity in freshwater habitats. The Hwangjicheon Stream is the source of South Korea's longest river and has been subjected to runoff from coal mining.

COVID-19 mortality prediction using ensemble learning and grey wolf optimization
Support vector machines Support vector machines (SVM) (Cortes & Vapnik, 1995) is one of the most robust supervised learning algorithms. SVM was first developed to address binary classification tasks before being expanded to cover multi-class classification issues. The SVM’s main idea is to construct a n-dimensional hyperplane where n is the number of variables involved. The hyperplane is optimized to maximize the distance between the two farthest data points of two or more classes.
A novel risk factor of contrast associated acute kidney injury in patients after enhanced computed tomography: a retrospective study
Discussion Enhanced computed tomography is a scanning method by injecting an iodine contrast medium into the body quickly, which can show the scope and characteristics of lesions more clearly to improve the accuracy of imaging diagnosis. There are few studies on CA-AKI after enhanced CT examination. Fukushima et al. (2017) found that cardiac dysfunction and ICU admission may be risk factors for CA-AKI in patients with preexisting renal dysfunction.

Setting: Single institution tertiary care center. Subjects: Fifty-seven patients with cervical spondylosis and cervical radicular pain who were deemed appropriate surgical candidates but elected to undergo CESI first were included.
Record breaking achievements by spiders and the scientists who study them
Discussion Spiders have a bad reputation among the general public (Jacobi et al., 2004; Schmitt & Müri, 2009): they are considered ugly, hairy, brown, and deadly poisonous creatures. There are tales describing how they lay eggs in human skin, frequent toilet seats in airports, and crawl into your mouth when you are sleeping. Misinformation about spiders in the popular media and on the World Wide Web is often rampant, leading to distorted perceptions and negative feelings about spiders.
