Odour from New Minas sewage treatment plant returns with rising temperatures

Carrigan earlier reported that priority projects at the regional sewage treatment plant in New Minas for 2026-27 include removing sludge from the third, fourth, and fifth treatment lagoons to improve airflow and oxygen concentration, expand capacity, and help prevent problematic odours from returning. He said sludge removal is likely to occur in the fall, when the cooler weather will reduce the risk of activity in the lagoons resulting in problematic odours.

Bond overwhelmed by response after fire destroys North Kentville garage

The cause of the fire has not been determined. Firefighters from Waterville, Port Williams, and New Minas also responded to the call. Bond said he first noticed flames on the corner of the roof, and it appears to him that the fire must have started there and burned downward. He said there wasn’t anything stored in that corner of the building that could have started the fire and no electrical wiring inside the walls or ceiling, so there must be another explanation.

St. John’s Anglican Church in Port Williams named national historic site

Built between 1804 and 1812, community members may have had oxen and horses to help with hauling and lifting, but everything in the church was crafted by hand. Hovell said he’s amazed when he thinks about that. There were no large cranes, and the heavy church bell was lifted into place using block and tackle gear borrowed from sailing ships.
