Bill Cassidy fought for his political life Saturday in a Republican primary set up to punish him for his vote to convict President Donald Trump following the Jan. 6, 2021, attack by his supporters on the U.S. Capitol. Early results showed Cassidy trailing two challengers, and WBRZ political analyst James Hartman said it appeared U.S. Rep. Julia Letlow would reach a runoff.

South Carolina pastor arrested on molestation charges in Louisiana, where he used to work

in News Source: WBRZ LIVINGSTON — A South Carolina preacher who worked in Louisiana two decades ago has been jailed in Livingston Parish on a pair of molestation charges, according to online records. Douglas Zeb McDaris, 74, was pastor at the Oakview Baptist Church in Livingston Parish from May 2005 to May 2006, according to McDaris' LinkedIn profile. He later became pastor at the New Beginnings Baptist Church in Six Mile, South Carolina, his LinkedIn and his Sermon Central online profile show.

Woman at heart of charges in Curtin retrial weeps after questions about events from 12 years ago

LIVINGSTON — A woman at the center of a rape case being heard in Livingston Parish weeped Monday after failing to recall  key events from a dozen years ago. Melanie Curtin is accused of simple rape and video voyeurism. State prosecutors say she took part in a videotaped assault with Dennis Perkins, a former Livingston Parish deputy serving a 100-year prison term for sex crimes involving minors. The charges against Curtin have nothing to do with juveniles.
