1 INTRODUCTION Genetic diversity is a key factor for biodiversity, affecting adaptive potential and fitness (Hoffmann et al., 2017; Keller & Waller, 2002). However, the effect of habitat fragmentation and the creation of barriers caused by human activities have led to many species experiencing decreasing effective population sizes and loss of gene flow, and in consequence a loss of genetic diversity (Leigh et al., 2019; Rivera-Ortíz et al., 2015).
