A deep eutectic solvent (DES) consists of two or more components with a melting point considerably lower than that of any of its discrete constituents. DESs possess physicochemical properties similar to ionic liquids, namely, high thermal stability, low volatility, nonflammability, and adjustable polarity. DESs are termed ‘designer solvents’ due to their flexibility to suit a wide range of diverse applications.
