Abstract Both the immune system and gut microbiome play important roles in the physiological response to stress, yet their interplay under conditions of long-term continuous stress remains poorly understood due to the lack of suitable experimental models. We employed our previously developed Perpetual Avoidance of Water on a Wheel (PAWW) model to investigate the effects of sustained stress on immune-related cytokine expression and gut microbiome composition in mice.

For hundreds of years mushrooms have been used as functional food for health. The basidiomycete Agaricus brasiliensis (A. brasiliensis) is famous for the medicinal properties of its beta glucans and of its antioxidants. Most researchers have studied polysaccharides from A. brasiliensis for their anti-inflammatory activity. However, active compounds from this mushroom have not yet been studied for the inactivation of NO inhibitory activity. The present study aimed to find the active compounds from A.
