1 INTRODUCTION Corporate disclosures regarding COVID-19 are subject to possible impression management, as are other disclosures (Merkl-Davies & Brennan, 2011). Indeed, impression management may be particularly likely in times of crisis (Blanc et al., 2019; Brennan et al., 2022; Leoni et al., 2021) or uncertainty (Chen et al., 2022; Dutta et al., 2023; Hao & Pham, 2022; Larcker et al., 2020; Wang & Xing, 2020), such as characterized the early stages of the pandemic.
