Three brothers—Jasmeet (“Jazz”), Navraj and Sukhraj Baduwalia, sons of Binder Baduwalia, owner of what they say was Reno’s first Indian restaurant, SS Super—opened Desi Flavors, a fast-casual Indian eatery, on April 23. It’s located in the light industrial complex at 9475 Double R Blvd. The brothers serve customized bowls and wraps—choose your base (basmati rice or a naan wrap), a meat or vegetarian filling, a couple of sauces and three toppings (like masala corn or pickled red onions).

The leaders of ABG Art Group—an Oakland, Calif., nonprofit that consults on and produces large art installations—have a knack for getting their finger on the pulse of a given community’s tastes. You can tell just by looking at their bold outdoor paintings in Bay Area locales like Oakland’s Chinatown, Downtown Oakland and Mill Valley. Last week, they completed their first-ever mural in Reno.

The one art venue in the region that people most often tell me they’ve never visited is St. Mary’s Art Center in Virginia City. It’s that big, brick building from 1875 with the wide, two-story porch that you can see if you stand on the town’s main drag, C Street, and look downhill. During the Comstock Lode boomtown days, it was St. Mary Louise Hospital.
