Freelance journalist. Current contributing travel writer (former personal finance writer) for the Toronto Star. I also tackle finance for the Globe and Mail and Metro Toronto.

What was your first job as a journalist?

Assistant editor at Oxygen Magazine. We published 16 issues per year; I was the grunt girl. Extremely thankful for the experience.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

You have permission to be curious, responsibility to be factual and the ability to tell an engaging story.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Knock, knock, knock on as many doors as possible can and keep in contact with these people. Relationship-building is key in this business.
