July 1, 2026, 5:50 p.m. CT The Amarillo Police Department issued a public safety alert about a train derailment in the city Wednesday afternoon, July 1. The Amarillo Fire Department said a train came off the tracks and is blocking Amarillo Boulevard. There are no injuries, and the train is upright. They are waiting on the railroad officials to get it moved and back on the tracks.

A juvenile has been arrested after a 14-year-old died in a shooting overnight in Amarillo, police said in an update Tuesday. The Amarillo Police Department said officers responded about 8:55 p.m. June 29 to the 1200 block of Jasmine Street about on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 14-year-old male teenager suffering from a gunshot wound. The teen was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
