Vinteren er her, og den siste uken har snøen lavet ned. Du har sikkert sett lastebiler dumpe lassevis av snø i havet gjennom Tromsø-vintrene. Men hva inneholder egentlig denne snøen? Og bør den havne i havet? Det skal forskerne nå finne ut av. Arbeidet er del av prosjektet DUMP hvor Akvaplan-niva samarbeider med NILU og Senter for hav og Arktis ved UiT Norges arktiske universitet.

The end of the mining epoch in Svea is a case study in balancing between nature and culture. Coal mining operations on Svalbard trace back to the 17th century where coal deposits were found by early explorers/whale hunters.
