Krystal Kavita Jagoo graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology in 2008 and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Windsor in 2010. Since graduate studies, Jagoo has worked for a decade in various roles in North Bay, Port Perry, and Toronto, providing mental health counseling services, which has further developed her critical thinking skills. Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, having grown up in Trinidad, I attended St. Joseph's Convent, where we had to pass a typing class in high school.

Why did you become a journalist?

I got into journalism in an attempt to address the horror stories students shared in my work as a social worker, committed to anti-oppressive practice.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I am most proud of my forthcoming Asparagus Magazine story, given how long I have tried to bring much-needed attention to inequitable mental health care.
