1. Introduction Population distribution is a crucial spatial manifestation of human–environment interactions and constitutes one of the central themes in the field of population geography research [1]. In 1991, the total fertility rate reached the replacement level, by 2022, a population decline occurred. This signifies the end of 31 years of slow growth driven by inertia in China, with substantial short-term population rebound unlikely [2].
