Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

My first job was at Carson Venture Magazine covering city politics in Carson, California.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes I have! In a galaxy and time far, far away.

How is social media changing news?

It's diversifying news at lightening speed and gauging public reaction in real-time is fascinating. The world is engaged via social media.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Searching for that ever elusive core of an issue; empowering the public with the knowledge to make informed decisions based on fact not bias.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

#BindersFullOfWomen -- Honorable mention has to go to #TheStench

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Two words: Comprehensive and conversational.

What's your favorite social network?

Facebook. I have quite an eclectic mix of colleagues, friends and critics and it is not unusual for an FB debate to spark commentary.

Who do you wish followed you?

Hands down, Dr. Rachel Maddow. Idealist. Realist. Feminist. Fearless. She's a role model for me.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I am most proud of my Trayvon Martin coverage and my recent story on Israel's occupation of Palestine.
