RAVENS HOT TAKES: Hirings, Firings, Wirings and Retirings
Last week my colleagues Derek Arnold and Dev Panchwagh pointed out how the Ravens struggles in the playoffs can be directly attributed to turnovers. The Ravens commit them but don’t create them anymore. A comparison of the Joe Flacco years to the Lamar Jackson reign shows an amazingly inept dearth in forced turnovers for the better part of a decade – something that was once a key ingredient in the Ravens’ recipe for success.
Out to Lunch: The Dobbins Dilemma
The Dobbins Dilemma For the better part of the last two seasons, the Ravens were at the center of a contract negotiation that drew the attention of the entire NFL. The long-term deal eventually struck between the Ravens and Lamar Jackson was a focal point for fans and teams league-wide, not only because of the caliber of player involved but also because of the implications for how Jackson’s contract would dictate the future of the QB market.
Lamar Gets a Bag and a Bouquet of Flowers
My First & Final Mock What better time than the final hours before the first round of the NFL Draft to throw together my one-and-only mock draft for the year? … Read More →
Out to Lunch: Odell Beckham is Here, Now What?
A couple of weeks ago, we talked about the “Choose your Own Adventure” journey the Ravens were taking to address the receiver position. Yesterday, we turned a page in the adventure book and landed on Odell Beckham, Jr. It certainly provides an answer to one of the questions that Ravens Flock was asking, but it was only one step in the journey. What does the rest of the adventure look like from here?
What's Good For Brady, Mahomes Should be Good for Lamar, Right?
Lamar, NFLPA, Owners…No, This is CLEVELAND’S FAULT! I can’t wait for opening day of baseball season. I’m so freaking exhausted by the Lamar Jackson saga and the daily onslaught of opinions that … Read More →
Out to Lunch: "The Best Ravens Team We've Ever Seen" - Brandon Marshall
Happy Veteran’s Day, Ravens Flock! Before we begin, let’s give a major shout out to all of those brave men and women who dedicated their lives to ensuring our country’s safety, especially the ones who never got to come home and see their families afterwards. To the ones who made the ultimate sacrifice, and the ones who worked hard every day and were lucky enough to make it out, we sincerely thank you! Ahh, the bye week.
Roquan The Rental?
The Ravens defense seemed re-energized in New Orleans during their 27-13 victory over the Saints. They played fast, tackled well and pressured the quarterback. Collectively, defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald’s squad benefitted from a shot of adrenalin, courtesy of Roquan Smith. The former Georgia Bulldog and Chicago Bear passed his crash course in the Ravens way.
Out to Lunch: Ravens Fans Get to Welcome Watson Back to NFL
One of the things I’ve always loved about football is the environment. You pack into the stands on a crisp fall afternoon, usually just as the sun is giving some warmth in relief of a cold morning. If you’re like me, you make your way in early to watch the graceful stride of players showcasing their athleticism unimpeded during the warm-ups. Soon, you’re elbow to elbow with other fans donning black and purple, and the slow, anticipatory feeling gives way to an electric atmosphere.
Ravens Training Camp Week 1: Who Impressed? Who Didn't?
Week 1 of the Ravens 2022 Training Camp is in the books. Yesterday the players had the day off after an exciting session down at M&T Bank Stadium before 24,000+ fans. Today the team gets set for their first practice in pads. And as they do, just 41 days removed from the start of the 2022 regular season, let’s take a look back at Week 1 on the practice field.
Camp Notes: A Dark Horse Pass Rusher Emerges
The kickoff week of Training Camp came to its pinnacle Saturday night, as the Ravens hosted over 26,000 fans in M&T Bank Stadium for their first open practice of the offseason. Fans poured into the Bank early and had a lot to cheer for throughout the session. Here are a few notes: RSR noted a miscommunication in the secondary on Friday, but Saturday night, Chuck Clark seemed to be in tune with new arrival Marcus Williams.

Ravens Clowning Around?
Heading into the offseason the Ravens had two clear and pressing needs to address. The offensive line needed some reinforcements and the team had to figure out a way to improve its pass rush. So far, the Ravens have added Morgan Moses to compete for the starting right tackle spot. That’s it. Attempts to add a pass rusher took a tailspin when Za’Darius Smith decided to do an about face and seek more money than that which his agent verbally agreed to with the Ravens and GM Eric DeCosta.
Bucking Trends
Even though the NFL is a copycat league, the Ravens typically forge their own path. That’s why both general manager Eric DeCosta and former team president Dick Cass scoffed at the notion they would follow the Los Angeles Rams recent path to success. Instead of building their team organically through the draft, the Rams threw huge amounts of money at big-time free agents and acquired other playmakers via trades, salary cap be damned.
Are The Gordon to Baltimore Rumors Real?
How has the Ravens offseason gone so far? Jeff Zrebiec from The Athletic joins Tony Lombardi and Brian McFarland. Among the topics discussed: • Is the Ravens alleged interest in Melvin Gordon genuine? • The unnecessary redundancy of the cash over cap noise • The ramifications on the Ravens of the Deshaun Watson contract • Jeff’s biggest takeaways from his sit-down with Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti • The latest on Ronnie Stanley’s recovery • Ja’Wuan James…will he make a difference in 2022?
Strap on the Purple Glasses
An Optimistic View of Your Ravens So, who’s happy with the start of the Ravens offseason? Don’t everybody raise your hands at once. Oh, the mood around the Flock Faithful was one of unbridled exuberance after the Ravens signed safety Marcus Williams and Morgan Moses.

OTL: Could The Ravens Draft Crush Shift to Georgia?
From Alabama to Oklahoma to Georgia In football, consistency and reliability can mean everything. The league is constantly in flux, as personnel, strategies, and even the rules are all subject to change, so knowing who and what you can rely on is incredibly important. One of the major ways GMs around the league make their money, especially at this time of the year, is knowing what universities they can rely on to produce consistent, top-tier talent.
Bold Predictions for Super Wild Card Weekend
While we all wish we were watching the Ravens this weekend, it’ll be nice to have a (mostly) stress-free Super Wild Card weekend. We’re having a little competition here at RSR. We’ll give one point for picking the correct winner, another for getting the score right against the betting line. Here’s how we see it… And assorted details, from a few who had more to say… Rob Shields Raiders @ Bengals The Raiders secondary is going to get lit up.
Ravens Predictions for Offseason and 2022
2021 was the wildest Ravens season of my lifetime. On the field, Baltimore was involved in heartbreaking losses and thrilling victories from start to finish, starting with an overtime loss to Las Vegas in Week 1, finally overcoming the Chiefs, Lamar Jackson’s 400-yard game in a comeback win over Indianapolis to an overtime loss in Ben Roethlisberger’s final game in Baltimore. Before the games even started, then between games, the Ravens were snake-bitten from the start.
