Baby boy surrendered under Iowa Safe Haven Act in May

June 9, 2026, 11:55 a.m. CT A baby boy is now in the care of the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) under Iowa's Safe Haven Act. The baby boy was born on May 25, according to a news release from HHS. He is the second safe haven baby of 2026. The first, a baby girl born March 6, was surrendered March 18. He will be placed with a foster family until he is adopted.

Shooting in Adel leaves one dead, another injured

June 9, 2026, 11:01 a.m. CT A shooting in Adel Monday night left one dead and another injured. Adel police responded to a report of shots fired just before 8 p.m. on Monday, June 8, in the 1600 block of Pleasant Street, according to a news release from the Adel Police Department. Upon arrival, officers found two adults, whose names have not been released, with gunshot wounds, the release said.
