Every Halloween season in my early childhood, I would make it a habit to watch the American classic Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein with my grandfather. For those unfamiliar with this 1948 black-and-white film, Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein is a horror comedy that satirises the Golden Era of Horror—a period between the early 20s to the late 30s marked by Universal’s Classic Monster movies.

“Cinema is alive!” “The pandemic is officially over!” Or, so you might hear from adamant movie lovers after the success of this year’s blockbuster summer. Barbenheimer, the internet phenomenon that skyrocketed the public’s interest around Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer due to the film’s simultaneous theatrical releases, gave audiences hope for the rekindling of the movie-going experience and the future of the cinema industry.

On February 16, the University of Toronto Students’ Union (UTSU) and U of T’s Black Students’ Association (BSA) visited the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) to take a tour of the gallery’s Arts of Global Africa and the Diaspora collection in honour of Black History Month. The tour included artwork from the Murray Frum Gallery of African Art, along with photography from the You Look Beautiful Like That exhibition and paintings from the Denyse Thomasos: Just Beyond exhibition.
