Abstract Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is an early stage of dementia, and its timely diagnosis is vital for preventing or delaying disease progression, which strongly impacts older adults’ health and quality of life. Non-intrusive MCI screening can combine cognitive assessments with physiological biomarkers. However, studies on practical, non-invasive biomarkers suitable for daily life remain limited, highlighting the need for new indicators.

Importance Schizophrenia is a complex genetic disorder demonstrating considerable heritability. Genetic studies have implicated many different genes and pathways, but much of the genetic liability remains unaccounted for. Investigation of genetic forms of schizophrenia will lead to a better understanding of the underlying molecular pathways, which will then enable targeted approaches for disease prevention and treatment.
