What was your first job as a journalist?

Writing for my high school newspaper.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Heavens yes! When I first began writing.

How is social media changing news?

In many ways and not always in a good way. Some articles are released without facts having been checked or sources verified.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Samuel Langhorne Clemens or James Patterson.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Making sure my facts are right and being able to write an honest article that allows readers to decide for themselves.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Feedly, Adobe, Word, Grammarly, Snagit, Pixlr, Photoshop, Wix.com

Why did you become a journalist?

I have always been a writer, first writing screenplays. However, after working with 20/20 on "Romania Ten Years Later." I was hooked.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Yes I did and I began by doing interviews and by my Senior year I was editor.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Choose a subject that interest you, read a lot of different articles, information, develop sources and ask pertinent questions.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Most days 9:00 am - 9:00 pm. Unless I am traveling or writing my own articles then pitches have to wait until I'm back.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

Will you mind writing a 300 word article to be published in (_____magazine) for free?

What's your favorite drink?

Diet Coke (no ice please).

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

In a place where I can watch people, see their reactions to developing news, attending conferences, social events.

UPI Defense, Al-Monitor, The Syrian Intifada, Global Security, Gatestone Institute, The Atlantic

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

I'm a woman from the United States covering controversial regions and subjects. Need I say more?
