La Carmina was awarded the Bronze prize in the 2020 SATW Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Competition. The Society of American Travel Writers foundation runs this prestigious travel writing award ceremony, which has been "recognizing excellence in travel journalism" since the early 1980s. Journalist La Carmina won bronze in the Best Personal Comment article category, for her travelogue about visiting Brazil with author Elizabeth Wurtzel.
