Bulldozers are tearing through ancient forests home to some of the last remaining isolated people on Earth. Championed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the ambitious $12.5 billion Great Nicobar Island Project in the eastern Indian Ocean is forging ahead, designed to counter China's regional rise, bolster military capability and capitalise on trade.

A speeding Toyota Fortuner collided with the side of a Maruti Swift, sending debris flying toward people seated nearby. The force of the crash threw one person to the ground and toppled a scooter. Bystanders quickly rushed to assist two seriously injured victims.

Electric vehicle sales in Australia hit new high in May

One in five vehicles sold in Australia in May was an EV, a new monthly sale record. EVs, along with hybrids and plug-in hybrids, accounted for nearly half of all vehicles sold last month. Experts say the war in Iran and petrol price surge helped spur on some consumers but a broader market change is well underway. Demand for electric vehicles is soaring to new heights in Australia, with EVs representing one in five of all new vehicles sold in May.
