The claim that Tonea Miller, a 27-year-old Black woman, was found lynched from a tree after traveling to Miami to celebrate Juneteenth is unproven. An investigation by the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office and the county medical examiner found the circumstances of Miller's death consistent with suicide, according to a statement released June 24. Miller was found dead June 18, one day before Juneteenth, the annual holiday that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans.
