First Ride: Fast & Furious Hollywood Drift finally offers thrill-seekers a reason to return to Universal Studios
Universal Studio Hollywood’s highly anticipated new roller coaster Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift officially opens tomorrow, 16th September, and I was lucky enough to ride it last week amidst a summer of technical rehearsals. It’s the first outdoor thrill-coaster the Los Angeles park has ever seen, with the park’s rides typically leaning into the more family-friendly variety. That’s not to say that something like the Transformers ride or even Harry Potter aren’t without their thrills.
Sydney’s Hannah Reilly is taking her brilliant one-woman show Roleplay to London after sold out Edinburgh Fringe run
Earlier this month, while at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, I had the chance to see Sydney writer and comedian Hannah Reilly’s brand-new one-woman show, Roleplay. The 70-minute production has already completely sold out its Edinburgh Fringe run, across 22 shows. In part, this came out of early buzz from must-see show lists on publications like The Guardian, Time Out Edinburgh, and even our own publication. And then there’s the pedigree of the show’s producers.
New York City’s Masquerade is a monumental achievement & one of the best theatrical experiences you’ll ever have
The idea of the interactive theatre experience is nothing new. From “whodunit” dinner parties to whatever it is people get up to at those Rocky Horror screenings, there’s always been a market for those of us who want to feel a part of the action. Even sitting front row at a comedy show brings out the more daring individuals. But few interactive productions gained the level of talk and acclaim that Punchdrunk’s Sleep No More had when it was unveiled in New York City in 2011.
Edinburgh Fringe Review: Bryn Woz’s SMUT is a rollercoaster ride through the fictional life of a burlesque superstar
Los Angeles-based performer Bryn Woznicki (aka Bryn Woz) brings her latest show SMUT to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In the one-woman show, Bryn plays burlesque character Entendre Entendre, as she launches her memoir Smut. In the show, she her share stories from the novel, and her life of promiscuity and pansexuality. As you can tell from the name alone, if you’re sex-positive, this show is for you. The character is fun, sexy and eccentric, and the show enjoyable from start to finish.
Edinburgh Fringe Review: Concerts of the Future is an imaginative VR experiment that lets you perform with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
Have you ever wanted to know what it might be like to perform with one of the world’s most lauded Symphony Orchestras? Now is your chance, with the immersive VR experience at the Edinburgh Fringe, Concerts of the Future. A collaborative experiment between The Sonicrats and the MSO (Melbourne Symphony Orchestra), Concerts of the Future sees participants – five at a time – journey from the lobby of Summerhall through three spaces.
Hotel Review: We explore Loews Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Studios Orlando as it turns 25 years old
Universal Studios now offer no less than eleven official accommodation options across its four theme parks in Orlando. But until 2013, only three were in operation. Loews Royal Pacific Resort was their third property, opening in June 2001, two years after the launch of their second gate, Islands of Adventure. It sits a brief walk – or a short ferry ride – away from that park, and the neighboring, original Universal Studios Orlando.
You shouldn’t read this review of Kristen Schaal’s The Legend of Crystal Shell from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
When I heard Kristen Schaal was coming to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, after her run at Netflix’s Comedy Festival in LA, I knew I couldn’t miss her show. By all reports, the comedian well known for her turns on Flight of the Concords, What We Do In The Shadows and of course Bob’s Burgers, had created an absurdist show perfect for the Fringe. And that was all I needed to know to book my ticket. I didn’t read anything more about it, and for that I am grateful.
Edinburgh Fringe Review: Birds is a hilarious character study from Australian duo Sons of Susan
Part of the House of Oz series at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival is Birds, a show that is set to make its stars Alex Hines and Sarah Stafford (known collectively as Sons of Susan) fan favourites of the festival.
Edinburgh Fringe Review: 11 1/2 Angry Men is an engaging and oft hilarious parody of the classic play
One of the must-see plays at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival is a parody of Reginald Rose’s classic 1957 12 Angry Men, that was a hit of the 2003 Edinburgh Fringe. With equal humour and cruelty, this version of the show is titled 11 1/2 Angry Men, due to the shortness of one of the jurors, played brilliantly by Ian Coppinger. The basic premise of the show remains the same as the original.
Edinburgh Fringe Review: Flamenc Oh!! offers a powerful look at generational heritage and rebellion
The Edinburgh Fringe brings in performances from all over the world, and this year, Spanish theatrical company Yllana have delivered their inspired flamenco comedy show Flamenc Oh!!. If you have never seen a show with such a description before, you’re not alone. I really had no idea what to expect when I walked in the beautiful Music Hall at Assembly Rooms, other than some great flamenco music and dancing, beautiful outfits and laughs along the way.
Edinburgh Fringe Review: Margaret Thatcher: Queen of Hollywood is funny, fast-paced and unforgettable
From Edinburgh Fringe mainstay Matt Tedford (Margaret Thatcher: Queen of Soho) comes his follow-up Margaret Thatcher: Queen of Hollywood. It’s a fast-paced, absurdist musical that sees the titular former Prime Minister take on modern Hollywood in an alternate reality where she is still alive, and in her own Oscar-winning cinematic universe.
Edinburgh Fringe Review: Finlay Christie’s Champagne Casanova shows off a talented young comedian worth your attention
There are certain comedians who want to make you believe that they’re not “allowed” to make jokes about “anything” anymore. That life is so hard for a privileged, straight white guy. That woke culture is destroying comedy. Yet up-and-coming British comedian Finlay Christie, who brings his new show Champagne Casanova to this month’s Edinburgh Fringe, is proof that the people making those claims were probably just not very funny to begin with.
Review: Showstopper! The Improvised Musical is improv genius; a well-earned Edinburgh Fringe tradition
One of the longest running and most popular shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is the improvised musical Showstopper!. Like this very website, they kicked things off 18 years ago, in August 2008. Since then, there have been a dozen sell-out seasons, and they’ve even taken it to the West End (twice!) for which they won an Olivier Award.
Edinburgh Fringe Review: FUCCBOIS: Live In Concert is perfectly executed with strokes of hilarious, lyrical genius
Walking the streets of Edinburgh this week for my second ever time at the Fringe, it’s hard to escape the presence of Australians. I hear the accent in just about every audience, and there seems to be a comedian or a production on just about every stage. With the world’s second largest Fringe Festival in Adelaide serving as the home for a preceding run for so many of the productions here – Australian or not – our two countries feel inextricably linked.
Edinburgh Fringe Review: Adults Only Magic Show is a must-see, hilariously entertaining romp from Melbourne
Making their fifth appearance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, last night I had the chance to see the hilarious Melbourne production Adults Only Magic Show at the iconic Scottish festival. The show receives rave reviews each year – and this, the 463rd time they’ve performed the show, will have been no exception. Helmed by magicians Sam Hume and Justin Williams, with MC Magnus ‘Danger’ Magnus, and their gorgeous assistant Richard Sullivan, this is unlike any show you’ve ever seen.
Edinburgh Fringe Review: Andy Macleod reflects on a career in music in Soho Days and Camden Nights
While the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is perhaps best known for its comedy programming, the world’s largest performing arts festival has something for everyone. British music promoter and musician Andy Macleod certainly understands this, as he debuts his new one-man show at the event, Soho Days and Camden Nights. It’s his second time at the Fringe, having previously appeared in 2022 with Anoint My Head. As was the case then, his new show was an adaptation of his memoir of the same name.
Live Review: Foo Fighters thrill in Toronto as they kick off their North American tour with Queens of the Stone Age
It felt like the 2003 Summer Festival season all over again in Toronto last night, as the Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age hit the massive Rogers Stadium to kick off their 2026 North American tour. After two cancelled tours – one (the 25th anniversary “Van Tour”) due to COVID-19, and their 2022 tour after the untimely passing of Taylor Hawkins – it was the Foo’s first show in the city in some 8 years.
Interview: Broadway Star Bianca Marroquin reflects on the 50+ year legacy of Chicago , and playing both Roxie and Velma
Back in May, while I was attending the IPW travel industry conference in Florida, we had the privilege to preview a number of Broadway shows. Most of them were recent additions to the Broadway catalogue, like the brilliant Tony winners The Outsiders and Maybe Happy Ending.
Georgie Black talks about House of Oz’s eight productions at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival
With the Edinburgh Fringe Festival about to kick off, we’ve been learning about all the Australians who have secured a spot amongst the thousands of daily performances at the Scottish event. Eight of these performances – including two we featured in our picks list earlier this week – are produced by a company called House of Oz, who have been supporting Australian creativity at the festival for five years now.
Six Australian Performances not to miss at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2026
Australians are once again taking over Edinburgh for the world’s largest Fringe Festival, which officially kicks off on August 7th. But with over 2,000 performances to choose from every day, grinding through the massive lists is a challenge. So we thought we’d lend you a helping hand and choose the six Australian performances we don’t think you should miss at the iconic Scottish festival.
11 immersive experiences you can’t miss in North America in 2026
From Broadway in New York to Disneyland in California, North America has long mastered the immersive experience. With new productions and spaces opening regularly, there’s also always something new to experience. Here’s just eleven of my favourite places to visit in the U.S.A. when looking to immerse yourself in art, music, scenery, cowboys (you’ll see what I mean) and theme parks. And in this climate, that escape couldn’t be more welcomed.
Flight Review: Flying America’s ULCC Frontier Airlines from New York (EWR) to Orlando (MCO)
With the demise of Spirit Airlines earlier this year, American travelers now have one less Ultra Low-Cost Carrier (ULCC) in market. As a loss of such an airline often means the increase of fares, it presents an opportunity for other budget airlines in the market, like Frontier Airlines, to take over their routes and help keep that from happening. Already, the Denver-based airline is aiming to fill the gap in the market, with 38 new routes being introduced in the last year.
What it’s like travelling America’s newest high-speed rail service: Brightline from Orlando, Florida
When it comes to rail transit, something North America and Australia have long held in common is the lack of a true high-speed service. This is defined as a service that generally travels at speeds of 200km/h (125mph) on upgraded but existing rail infrastructure, or 250km/h (155mph) on newly built lines. Even now, neither country offers the latter, however the United States does have two defined by the former.
Epic Universe turns one: How the Orlando theme park proves itself a bold, seamless & unmissable experience
Friday marked the first anniversary of the opening of Universal Studios’ fourth Orlando park, Epic Universe. It promised one of the most ambitious launch offerings in theme park history, truly giving purpose to its “epic” name across five themed lands. So, a year in, how does it all stack up? Just before the one year anniversary last week, I headed to the park in Florida for the first time to find out.
Hotel Review: Sheraton Fallsview delivers iconic Niagara views and so much more
There’s no shortage of hotel options in Niagara Falls, Canada. Some trade entirely on their proximity to, and view of, the falls. Others offer a more boutique option, their own fun attractions (like a water park), and some also operate as a Casino. And then there’s the Sheraton Fallsview, which sits at the base of the veritable amusement park that is Clifton Hill.
Album Review: Foo Fighters’ Your Favorite Toy is their best album in some 15 years
On Friday, the Foo Fighters released their 12th full length LP, and first in almost three years, Your Favorite Toy. Early reviews indicated this is the best the iconic American rockers have sounded in more than a decade. And as a fan of the band for almost 30 years, I’m here to tell you that this is very much the case. With a heavy lean towards the sounds that established them over 30 years ago, and the bands that influenced them, Your Favorite Toy will not disappoint fans.
Flight Review: How ANA elevates the economy experience, and changed the way I look at air travel
Photo Credit: Boeing | Xia Yuan As of early this year, I’d never flown either of Japan’s major carriers, ANA or JAL. However, that all changed last month when I flew from Seattle (USA) to Tokyo (Haneda) on All Nippon Airways (ANA) for the first time. I booked this flight using Virgin Australia’s Velocity Points, for whom ANA is one of their airline partners.
Disney Adventure World has officially opened in Paris: Here’s what’s new, and what’s still to come
Two weeks ago, on 29th March, Disney’s newest theme park Disney Adventure World officially opened its doors in Paris. Adventure World sits on the site of Walt Disney Studios Park, which opened as the second gate to Disneyland Paris in 2002. But it’s not just a rebranding. It’s a complete reimagining of 90% of the existing land, and the addition of over 60 new acres.
Universal’s Fast & Furious roller coaster has already reshaped the Hollywood Hills – and Orlando is next!
Last year, we reported on how the new Fast & Furious themed roller coaster Hollywood Drift would be arriving at Universal Studios Hollywood in Summer 2026, breaking a tonne of records along the way. It will be Universal Studios Hollywood’s first ever high speed outdoor roller coaster, and the fastest coaster of any Universal theme park. Which is impressive given the fantastic VelociCoaster in Orlando has only held that record since 2021.
Foo Fighters announce massive Summer Australian tour and announce 16 local support acts
Fresh from their first ever show in Launceston earlier this year – which is now the biggest concert ever held in Tasmania – our friends in the Foo Fighters are making good on their promise to return to Australian shores. And it’s sooner than you think! The band will be bringing their “Take Cover” tour to stadiums in Brisbane, Townsville, Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne and Adelaide this November 2026, followed by Christchurch, Auckland and Perth in January 2027.
Flight Review: Canada's Porter Airlines continue to impress with their flights to California
Porter Airlines have fast become my favourite airline in Canada. They offer great rates, with free Wi-Fi and beer on board, great snacks and no middle seats on any of their aircraft. In the last few years, they’ve been fast expanding their reach, shaking up markets that had long been exclusively catered to by Air Canada or WestJet. At the end of 2024, they launched direct flights between Palm Springs – home of Coachella – and Toronto.
Music and Whiskey come together in Anaheim's innovative Stone Groove Stillhouse
It’s not every day you experience something new, especially in the food and beverage scene. But at the end of last year in Anaheim, California, I did just that at Stone Groove, billed as the world’s first ever “Audio Stillhouse”. So what is an Audio Stillhouse? In short, it’s a distillery where they use “music-driven sonic energy” to mold the flavour of their spirits.
BTS are back. And they're coming to Australia. Join the waitlist now.
ARMY! Do we have news for you. Back in 2014, we were lucky to get Australia’s first interview with the K-Pop group who became a sensation around the world, BTS. And now for the first time since 2022, the group are back and ready to tour the world through 2026 and 2027 across 34 regions and 79 shows. Which will make it the biggest K-Pop world tour of all time. These dates will include four Australian dates in February 2027, with venues and further ticketing details still to be announced.
The Musical Universe of Orono Noguchi: Nose Noise, cheese touch and the future of Superorganism
Last month, I had the privilege of sitting down in Tokyo, Japan with Orono Noguchi from Superorganism, and her Dad – the namesake of her new project Nose Noise‘s 2025 LP TOM. Orono and I last formally sat down back in 2018 while they were on ground at The Great Escape in the UK, ahead of their first visit to Australia to play at Splendour in the Grass. At the time, the band were riding the wave of their debut, self-titled album.

Hotel Review: Hilton Anaheim's massive renovation impresses across the street from Disneyland
Just steps from the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, and next door to the Anaheim Convention Centre, the Hilton Anaheim has long been a popular hotel destination for travellers to the region. It opened back in 1984 just in time for the last Los Angeles Olympics. So it’s fitting that they just completed a multi-million dollar renovation – the most substantial since they opened – less than three years before the Olympics returns.
First Ride: Tiana's Bayou Adventure breathes new life into one of Disneyland's most iconic attractions
A little over a year ago, Disneyland’s iconic 1989 attraction Splash Mountain received a long overdue makeover when Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opened at the Anaheim, California theme park. The ride is the first to incorporate characters from Disney’s 2009 film The Princess and the Frog. Tiana – the film’s titular Princess – has also spread her wings into the dining of the area, with Tiana’s Palace taking over the former French Market Restaurant that sits in the neighbouring New Orleans Square.
Flight Review: Is Virgin Australia's Business Class worth the extra expense from Sydney to Perth?
It’s been a while since I last few business class with Virgin Australia across the country. So long, in fact, the airline still offered flat beds on the route when I did. These days, Virgin’s business class offering seems to be consistent across the board on their 737-800 fleet, with just 8 business class seats in the exclusive cabin. While the experience may not be as immediately impressive as it once was, this remains the airline’s premium offering. So how does it stack up?
How Disneyland is celebrating Christmas and their 70th birthday for 2025
As Disneyland continues its 70th Birthday celebrations in Anaheim, California, the Christmas decorations are out and the spirit of the Winter Holidays are in full force. I visited the park last month to get a taste of what guests will enjoy until 7th January 2026, and what’s been added to the park since my last visit in 2024. After a lengthy update and closure in 2024, 2025 has seen things return to normal for the classic Disneyland attraction Haunted Mansion.
Flight Review: United Airlines' Dreamliner service across the Pacific impresses (LAX to Sydney)
Last month, I flew on United Airlines’ Transpacific service for the first time in almost two years. This time from Los Angeles to Sydney. I’ve been flying United over the Pacific fairly regularly over the last two decades, and every time I note that the experience has continued to improve. So was that the case this time around? Read on to find out.
How Disneyland's Lightning Lane Multi Pass works: Is queue cutting worth the extra cost?
In December 2021, after more than 20 years of the “FastPass” system (which this feature length documentary will tell you all about so I don’t have to), Disneyland scraped their relatively groundbreaking – if imperfect – queue cutting system, in favour of “Genie+”. The catch: putting it more in line with the add-ons offered by their competitors, it would no longer be included with the price of admission.
From Gaga to G Flip, QOTSA to NIN: The 13 best tours we saw in the Northern Hemisphere this Summer
With the highly anticipated Oasis Australian tour starting today, and massive tours like Lady Gaga on the horizon, we wanted to look back at the last few months of Summer touring in the northern hemisphere and talk about the tours that have impressed us the most. This list only reflects the shows that our team have been able to attend, so if something you saw is missing – chances are we missed it ourselves.
First Ride: Niagara's latest attraction lets you "Take Flight" over the Falls like never before
Niagara Falls in Canada just got its first major new attraction in three years. The last – the Niagara Parks Power Station – brought new life to a disused hydroelectric plant, with nightly projections, great exhibits and access to one of the most unique views of the Falls by way of “The Tunnel”. Now, Niagara deliver a different sort of immersion with Niagara Takes Flight: A Soaring Adventure.
No Doubt just doubled the length of their residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas
Anyone who has visited the Sphere in Las Vegas will tell you that it’s one of the most impressive places on the planet to see a live concert. Indeed, with a 270 degree screen on the inside, and a landscape-altering 360 degree screen on the outside, there is no place like it. The venue opened less than two years ago and has already housed the likes of U2 – who opened the venue – Dead & Company, Phish, Eagles and Backstreet Boys, who return this December.
The world's most iconic composers are getting their own music festival next month in Los Angeles
When I attended Coachella in 2017, I met the inclusion of Hans Zimmer with some skepticism. Not because I wasn’t excited to see such a bold choice on the lineup – but because I was worried it wouldn’t work with that sort of festival crowd. That all changed the moment I saw Lebo M join Hans on stage to perform the iconic opening vocals from The Lion King. The entire crowd lost their minds. Many were openly weeping, with a look of bewilderment.
Meredith-bound TV on the Radio, Perfume Genius and Sam Austins announce headline shows
Fresh off being announced on the incredible, sold-out Meredith Music Festival lineup, headliners TV on the Radio and Perfume Genius, alongside Sam Austins, have today announced headline shows across Australia’s East Coast. I was lucky enough to catch TV on the Radio earlier this month in Toronto, Canada, and have to say it was the best form I had seen the band in a long time. They brought the same urgency and electricity as when I first saw them on the Return to Cookie Mountain tour in 2006.
First Ride: The record-breaking AlpenFury launches as one of the world's best roller coasters
It’s not every day that a record-breaking new roller coaster arrives at any theme park. Last month, Canada’s Wonderland, just out of Toronto, Canada, enjoyed such a privilege, with the long anticipated AlpenFury boarding its first riders. Last week, I was amongst the lucky few to ride the park’s first major new attraction since their brilliant 2019 dive coaster, Yukon Striker. So is it any good? In the latest entry in our First Ride series, we’ll answer that very question.
The world's first roller coaster with two launches and nine inversions just opened in Canada
Based just outside of Toronto in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada’s Wonderland has more roller coasters than any other theme park in Canada. In fact, as of this week, it’s tied for third place with Cedar Point for having the most roller coasters anywhere in the world. And that’s thanks to their 18th and latest coaster, AlpenFury, which opened this past Saturday (July 12th) after months of anticipation. The coaster itself sets a number of records.
Coldplay hit Toronto’s divisive new Rogers Stadium for first of four shows: Full Setlist and Venue Review
UK group Coldplay are currently undertaking their Moon Music world tour, and last night they touched down in Toronto, Canada for the first of four shows. Tickets to the shows – their first in the city in eight years – have been a hot commodity, fetching massive prices on resale sites after more than 200,000 tickets flew out the door late last year. The venue is Toronto’s newest, a temporary 50k capacity outdoor stadium an hour out of the city called Rogers Stadium.
A guide to Canada's Clifton Hill as the iconic Niagara Falls attraction turns 100
There’s no question that one of the biggest tourist attractions in North America is the natural wonder that is Niagara Falls. There are ways to experience it on both the USA and the Canadian sides of the Niagara River, with some 21 million people estimated to visit each year. But ask anyone which side is the best, and the unanimous response tends to be Canada. And with some 5 million more visitors on the Canadian side than the USA side each year, those numbers speak for themselves.
