Background To choose the optimal management of an ovarian mass, the characterisation of the mass as benign or malignant is essential to improve treatment outcomes.1 2 If the mass is likely to be malignant, treatment in a referral centre for gynaecological oncology improves the outcome.3 4 The Assessment of Different NEoplasias in the adneXa (ADNEX) model5 and the Risk of Malignancy Index (RMI)6 have become key tools for estimating the risk of an ovarian mass being malignant.
