Glutton-free Ramadan All praise is due to Allāh for granting us yet another opportunity to observe Ramaḍān. The most sacred month in the Islamic calendar is a time when Muslims concentrate on nurturing piety and practising self-reflection. The exhortation to master one’s passion and conquer the lower self is of particular relevance to the Muslim community in the UK.

Now that we have entered the last few days and nights of Ramadān, this article aims to put forward some key points to assist in squeezing out as much reward as possible from the remaining days. It does not matter how you started; it is the conclusion that truly matters, as we know from various statements of our Prophet ﷺ. One of the missing components of this Ramadān that is dear to many is I’tikāf – finding seclusion in the masjid during the last ten nights of Ramadān.

The Arab Prophets are five: Prophets Hūd, Ṣāliḥ, Shuʿayb, Ismāʿīl, and Muhammad عليهم السلام. We will restrict our analysis to the third of them, who was sent shortly after Prophet Lūṭ عليه السلام. He was a Prophet who was sent to the people of Madyan, a town which was located in greater Syria, and who – by virtue of his eloquence – was nicknamed خطيب الأنبياء (the preacher of the Prophets).
