On any given day, there are 190,600 women and girls incarcerated in the U.S., according to the (PPI). An additional 93,000 women are held in jails, with the majority (51,000) not having been convicted of a crime. “In many states, women’s incarceration rates are continuing to grow faster than men’s,” PPI notes.
