1 Introduction Research on gender identity in young people continues to be contentious and limited, with gender research amongst an intellectual disability population being largely stagnant. A recent systematic review in the United States highlighted how the evidence base for treating young people without intellectual disability experiencing distress associated with their gender remains sparse and of low quality (Hall et al. 2024).
