$45K donation from Greater Victoria firefighters funds equipment to warm newborns when receiving medical care

Greater Victoria firefighters donated over $45,000 to buy equipment that keeps newborns warm as they’re receiving medical care. The Professional Fire Fighters of Greater Victoria (PFFGV) made the donation to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation, as part of its second 10-year committment to donating $250,000 to pediatric and neonatal care at the Victoria General Hospital. Since 2011, PFFGV has donated more than $395,000.

Traffic impacts coming as construction gets underway on Robb Avenue in Comox

Vehicle and pedestrian access is expected to be impacted during construction on Robb Avenue in Comox starting next month. Comox says it is undertaking “important infrastructure improvements” on the road between Anderton and Aitken roads. Construction will start in July and last until November. “These improvements will make Robb Avenue safer, more accessible and better connected for residents now and into the future,” said Jordan Wall, Comox’s chief administrative officer.

Explosives training scheduled for Albert Head in Metchosin

People in and around the Department of National Defence facility at Albert Head in Metchosin should expect to hear explosions next week. On June 30 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., there will be explosives training held at the Albert Head Training Area. The Department of National Defence advises that the public may notice an increase in noise during the training. Anyone out on the water are reminded to stay 1000 metres away, and may see sentries along the shoreline.
