What was your first job as a journalist?
Writing for the Metro on eating disorders
Have you ever used a typewriter?
No but I've written a journal every day since I was 13 so am on journal number 110 now
How is social media changing news?
It is creating misinformation. I write scientific evidence-based news that helps make people healthier and happier
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Myself- as sometimes I have to kick myself that my dream came true and I actually grew up to be both a scientist and a writer.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Pride.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Happy to pitch ideas or write what is needed
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Word and Wordpress and Google Scholar and NCBI and PubMed for scientific journals

Why did you become a journalist?
To help educate people to be happier and healthier and stop fad diets
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I was a science writer at Putney Prophet (the school paper for Putney High)
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
My articles on food waste and fibre. These help to save the planet and help people get happier and healthier
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Write what you want to read
When's the best time to pitch you?
After peanut butter- it makes me buzzing with energy
What's the best pitch you ever got?
Writing on sleep. I used my expertise in neuroscience and nutrition, interviewed my hero academics and loved writing it
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
I was asked to write 2000 words on dry ice
What's your favorite drink?
Fizzy water. I drink it by the bucket load
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Walking. I always say that I am like a dog. I go for walks to walk the bitch out of me until I feel human again.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
My cousin Cordelia Aspinall. She writes for the Evening Standard, and is my penpal, sister and friend
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That anyone can write about science, health and wellness. Non-scientists writing about health and well-being create misinformation.
