Since releasing Fever Dreams Pts 1–4 in 2022, Johnny Marr has been busier than ever. Having celebrated a decade as a solo artist with the Spirit Power: The Best of Johnny Marr compilation – which features two previously unreleased tracks – he’s also published a book showcasing his celebrated guitar collection, released a live album documenting his 2024 Hammersmith show, overseen a reissue of The Healers’ Boomslang, and maintained an extensive touring schedule around the world.

Johnny Marr returned to Manchester on 9th July for a sold-out homecoming triumph at Castlefield Bowl, stepping onto the city’s biggest outdoor stage for the largest headline show of his solo career. While he’s no stranger to the venue – having previously appeared in support of Noel Gallagher in 2015 before returning as a special guest with The Last Shadow Puppets and Crowded House – this time the spotlight was his alone.

If there’s one thing Johnny Marr has never been accused of, it’s standing still. Although the former Smiths guitarist hasn’t released a studio album since 2022’s Fever Dreams Pts 1–4, the past few years have been anything but quiet.
