My first book, 50 Years of CAMRA, was named Best Beer Book in the World 2022 and my second book, Beer Festivals, is in the final 3 for the same award in 2026.

47 minutes ago I never tried the original Double Diamond. Production ceased some 30 years ago long before I was at legal drinking age, or indeed at the slightly lower bar (at the time) of the North-West’s mean underage drinking age. It is a beer that, until last week, existed for me only in an apocryphal pantheon – that of history’s most despised beers.

Run by homebrewer and software engineer, Christian Scheb, Beer Analytics provides a database of well over a million recipes from the homebrew community. Alongside those recipes, Christian has pulled out some fascinating, up-to-the-minute analytics about trends. I presume that data is global in nature since it’s derived from Google search information.

They know their customers like them: sales of premium own-label products increased in value by 74.7 per cent last year. M&S is leading the charge in a new wave of own-brand products that work directly with named breweries to create flavourful beers with a recognisable pedigree.
