Mike and Roz Goodwin are an institution on staff at North Mackay High School but next year, the beloved teachers are skipping class and taking a long anticipated Euro trip. Mike took up a job as a history teacher at the school his first year out of university. Soon after, wife Roz joined him there as a dance teacher and now, 27 years later, they think it might finally be time for a break. "We're calling it our mid-life crisis gap year," said Mike.

In a few days time all Australians will be making a very important decision that will affect their lives for the next three years, but two Mackay lovebirds will be making a decision far more important. Rebecca Roberts and Leigh Daley will wed on September 7, a date they claimed far before Prime Minister Kevin Rudd announced his election plans. "I couldn't actually believe it to be honest," says the soon-to-be Mrs Daley. She says it's been the source of many jokes since.
