What was your first job as a journalist?
In my University's newspaper. I have been freelancing for nearly two decades.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Sadly, yes. I am that old. At least it was electronic!
How is social media changing news?
It's allowing voices from all over the world to be heard - to go viral, in some cases.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
To me, it means providing correct and actionable information to people. It also means entertaining them.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?
My Google Chromebook.
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter, for writing. Facebook/Instagram for personal.
Why did you become a journalist?
I wrote all the time, for free. I guess it seemed like the logical, next step.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
No - I was too busy being a band nerd.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I wrote a story called "Hot Wheels and Stormy Weather" as an experimental stream-of-consciousness piece, and it ended up being my favourite.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Don't get discouraged by rejection. You don't suck as badly as you think.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Anytime; I'm a parent. I don't sleep.
What's your favorite drink?
Coffee. Is that a serious question?
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
I don't understand the question.

Lately, it's been Evie Magazine. I love the fresh take on women's interest articles.
