Interview

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, my grandmother had a typewriter that I used before my family got a PC.

How is social media changing news?

The speed that it is delivered, but someone has to pull the emergency break/triple check facts.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

So many! I currently work in the building that the Daily Planet was modeled after, so I'll say Lois Lane.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Emails are fine, I just don't like when people ask for coverage as if they are taking out ad space.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Cameras - mostly a Canon C100, although I am trained on others, iPhone for social media + shooting in a pinch as well as a computer.

What's your favorite social network?

Instagram. I love visual storytelling and Instagram allows for users to share their stories quickly and easily.

Why did you become a journalist?

I want to help provide access to information. Maybe its a bit idealistic, but I like to give a voice to the voiceless whenever possible.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Depends on what shift I'm working. Lately, I've been working nights, so early afternoon.
