Laurie Steed is a New Zealand born, Australian raised writer, editor and reviewer. His writing has been published in The Age, Meanjin, Westerly, Australian Book Review, Etchings, The Big Issue, Kill Your Darlings, The Sleepers Almanac and elsewhere.
He won the 2013 Patricia Hackett Prize for his story 'The Knife' and his fiction has been shortlisted for The Bridport and Fish Short Story Prizes, as well as receiving high commendation in The Hadow/Stuart Short Story Award and Commendations in The Katherine Susannah Prichard Short Fiction and KSP Speculative Fiction Awards. He is a past recipient of Varuna and Writing@Rosebank Felowships, was chosen to attend the Graduate Fiction Workshop at the University of Iowa in 2012 and was selected as Writer in Residence for The Fellowship of Writers (Western Australia) in the same year. He will complete his PhD Candidature in Creative Writing at The University of Western Australia in March, 2014.
He has guest edited fiction for page seventeen, [Untitled] magazine and Dotdotdash, assesses short fiction for Writers Victoria and is a proud member of the Emerging Writers Festival Program Advisory Committee. He lives in Perth, Western Australia.
