Background Surgical site infection (SSI) is a major cause of postoperative morbidity. Surgical antibiotic prophylaxis (SAP), defined as the pre-incision administration of an antimicrobial agent targeting likely organisms in clean or clean-contaminated procedures without active infection at the operative site, is a cornerstone of prevention in surgery. However, critically ill patients represent a distinct population with profound susceptibility to infection.

Abstract Two-stage revision of total hip arthroplasty (THA) remains the gold standard for periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). Trabecular Metal (TM) offers a valuable option for acetabular reconstruction, but evidence in septic revision THA (rTHA) is scarce. This study evaluated outcomes of TM implants in two-stage rTHA for infection, hypothesizing results comparable to existing literature, especially in cases with major bone loss.

Abstract: The production of low-emission fuels is increasingly important to support the energy demand while combatting climate change. In this regard, harnessing solar energy for hydrogen production is an appealing prospect. The FreeHydroCells European project (Grant Agreement No 101084261) aims to create a novel, tandem, wireless, monolithic photoelectrochemical (PEC) cell to split water unassisted and provide a cheap, efficient and modular hydrogen generating solution.
