Results from the FGDs The MHPs in the FGD could relate to the survey findings presented, but were surprised by the extent to which the COVID-19 pandemic had adverse consequences on work as well as on mental health and well-being. As the FGDs took place during the second wave, this allowed for participants to reflect on their experiences during the first wave of the pandemic.

Highlights • A systematic overview of values relevant to advanced cancer patients is presented. • Patients who seek trial participation generally report hope, trust, quantity of life, altruism, perseverance, faith and/or risk tolerance as important values. • Patients who refuse trial participation generally report quality of life and humanity as important values. • Values as autonomy and social adherence can be reported by both trial seekers or refusers.

Background Advance care planning (ACP) supports patients in identifying and documenting their preferences and timely discussing them with their relatives and healthcare professionals (HCPs). Since the British Thoracic Society encourages ACP in chronic respiratory disease, the objective was to systematically review ACP practice in chronic respiratory disease, attitudes of patients and HCPs and barriers and facilitators related to engagement in ACP.
