I have been doing this work for (gasp) over 25 years. I know you know. And I know you know I keep saying the number out loud (and gasping, each time) because I need help believing it's real as, truth be told, it feels like both longer and a lot shorter than that. Because so much has changed and yet so much has stayed doggedly the same. And if I had to identify the greatest (and most frustrating) consistency of the last quarter century, it would be how decisions are made inside big organisations.

Fun fact. I told an American friend recently to get her skates on and she looked at me all baffled. “We’re not going skating, are we?” she said. Because unexpected things have been known to happen around me in the past... Turns out 'get your skates on' is not widely used outside Britain and Oz to mean chop chop... get a move on... hurry up already. And I thought of her and this conversation as I was walking through a park the other day. It’s a small park.
