Are caves enough to represent karst groundwater biodiversity? Insights from geospatial analyses applied to European obligate groundwater-dwelling copepods
Karst landscapes are natural systems that develop on soluble rocks such as limestone, dolostone, and evaporites, with their formation largely attributed to chemical dissolution processes. Karst terrains cover approximately 10% of the Earth’s surface, provide fresh drinking water to an estimated 10% of the global population, and, according to some estimates, supply up to 25% of the groundwater used for agricultural and industrial purposes (Kuniansky et al., 2022).

The role of echinacoside-based cross-linker nanoparticles in the treatment of osteoporosis
Antiresorptive drugs and anabolic agents are currently the two main categories of drugs used to treat osteoporosis (Xu et al., 2022), and all these drugs have different degrees of toxic side effects. Therefore, the development of natural drugs could focus on regulating bone metabolic state to restore the balance of bone metabolism. In this study, we prepared CL-ECH nanoparticles, hoping to use this simple and effective drug carrier at low doses for the treatment of osteoporosis.
Salinity and pH effects on survival, growth, and reproduction of quagga mussels
Discussion Adult quagga mussels can survive, grow, and reach sexual maturity in the freshwater of the Truckee River, but not in the brackish waters of Pyramid Lake (Fig. 6). A reduction in the pH of the Pyramid Lake brackish water did not improve survival of the mussels (Fig. 6). Similarly, increasing the pH of the Truckee River water did not result in higher mortality rates (Figs. 4 and 6).
