Comparing the Postural Assessment Scale for Stroke and Berg Balance Scale for predicting community walking ability at discharge in subacute stroke: a prospective cohort study
This study demonstrated that both the BBS and PASS are effective tools for predicting walking ability at discharge in patients with subacute stroke undergoing rehabilitation, consistent with prior research on their role in balance assessment and functional outcome prediction. While both tools demonstrated high overall accuracy, the BBS showed slightly higher specificity.

moSCminer: a cell subtype classification framework based on the attention neural network integrating the single-cell multi-omics dataset on the cloud
Recent strides in single-cell omics sequencing technologies have ushered in a new era of cellular exploration, offering insights into developmental stages, cellular phenotypes, and pathogenesis (Haghverdi & Ludwig, 2023; Li & Wang, 2021; Nomura, 2021). By delving into the profiles of various modalities such as transcriptome and epigenome, single-cell studies empower precise profiling at the individual cell level.
Prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus and impaired fasting glucose, and their associated lifestyle factors among teachers in the CLUSTer cohort
To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to report the prevalence of T2DM, undiagnosed DM and IFG, among teachers in Malaysia. When comparing the findings within teachers across countries, the prevalence of known T2DM among Malaysian teachers (4.1%) was lower than that of teachers in other countries such as India (6.5%) and Nigeria (5.6%), with matched teachers’ age ranges (Elegbede, Sanni & Alabi, 2022; Llone et al., 2014).

An effective and comprehensible method to detect and evaluate retinal damage due to diabetes complications
Diabetic retinopathy (DR), a complication of diabetes, can cause damage to the retina, the crucial part of the eye. Specifically, the damage caused to the retina by diabetes is known as “diabetic retinopathy”. Diabetic retinopathy is a common complication of diabetes that occurs when blood sugar levels are poorly controlled over a long period of time. The negative effects of high blood sugar on the tiny blood vessels (microvasculature) in the retina lead to abnormal changes in the retina.

Comparative chloroplast genome analyses of diverse Phoebe (Lauraceae) species endemic to China provide insight into their phylogeographical origin
Ancestral geographical area reconstruction We performed an ancestral geographical area reconstruction to trace the biogeographic history of the Phoebe species in China. Based on the distribution of 22 Phoebe species in China as recorded in the literature and in botanical specimens, we have produced biogeographic data on these species (Table S1).
Repeatability of an attention bias test for sheep suggests variable influence of state and trait affect on behaviour
Discussion Repeatability estimates for vigilance behaviour were moderate and mean vigilance duration did not change significantly over the three trials, which partially supports our hypotheses.
Characteristics of muscle contraction of the rectus femoris using tensiomyography by sex in healthy college students: a cross-sectional study
Measures The participants were instructed to perform no high-intensity exercise for 36 h before the measurements. The measurement parameters included TMG, lower-limb muscle mass determined using a body composition analyzer, rectus femoris thickness determined with an ultrasonic measuring device, isometric knee extension torque with a manual muscular strength meter as the maximum muscle strength, and thigh circumference. Height and weight were noted prior to the measurements.

In vitro effects of a human monoclonal antibody against the N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor
Sir, The study of Kreye et al. (2016) titled, ‘Human cerebrospinal fluid monoclonal N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDAR) autoantibodies are sufficient for encephalitis pathogenesis’ provides interesting information suggesting the pathogenicity of a human-derived monoclonal antibody against the NR1 subunit of the receptor. The authors clearly show that the antibody causes a decrease of NMDAR and NMDAR-related currents in cultured neurons (Kreye et al., 2016).
