Conceived by Klaus Bussmann, curator at what was then called the Westfälisches Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kunstgeschichte, and greatly assisted by the young Kasper König, the first Skulptur Projekte Münster, held in 1977, was a pioneering exhibition in an unlikely location: a midsize, predominantly Catholic German city often hostile to modern art.
To understand the accomplishments of Fluxus and video art pioneer Wolf Vostell (1932-1998), a good place to start is with Concrete Traffic, a 1970 piece in which a 1957 Cadillac is encased in concrete. The artwork, after five years of conservation, has been returned to the University of Chicago, where it will be permanently located near the entrance of a parking garage not far from the Smart Museum of Art.

Proponents of environmental art, this husband-and-wife team comprising Newton and Helen Mayer Harrison has spent the past five decades exposing the ecological destruction wrought by humans and devising various schemes for its amelioration.
In his recent exhibition at Postmasters, David Diao utilized his usual vocabulary of modernist tropes and infographics to revisit his own childhood. Titled "HongKong Boyhood," the show focused on the years 1949 through 1955, which the artist, then aged six to twelve, spent with his family in Hong Kong after they fled the Communist takeover of mainland China and before they immigrated to the United States.
