Two Perth-based men in their early 20s have been charged over their alleged ties to a highly organised cybercrime syndicate that facilitated attacks against thousands of organisations across the globe. On 26 August, the Australian Police Force (AFP) and Western Australia Police Force (WAPF) executed search warrants at separate properties in Cottesloe, Hamilton Hill, and Mandurah. The young men have been named as 21-year-old Ruben Thomson and 23-year-old Louis Gaebler by ABC News.

ARIA bans AI-generated music from Australian charts

Wholly AI-generated music will be excluded from Australia’s official music charts under a new set of eligibility rules announced by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) on Wednesday. ARIA – which runs Australia’s main single, album, and genre-based music charts – will enforce new rules on songs created with AI from Friday, 28 August.

Origin Energy has revealed full bank account numbers belonging to about 60 customers were accessed during its July data breach, along with around 100 ID document numbers. The Australian gas and electricity retailer first announced it was investigating a potential data breach involving unauthorised access to “some customers’ data”. Within a week, Origin confirmed that information belonging to approximately 900,000 current and former customers had been accessed.
