What the Bible really says about voting. While most Christians believe that God has provided laws and principles of right and wrong in the Bible, many Christians believe that God wants us to rely on our own principles when voting for people to be in positions of leadership. The truth is, the Bible doesn’t directly command us to vote because the people who lived in biblical times couldn’t vote as they lived under kings and emperors who weren’t elected by popular votes.

The Bible says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11). As Christians, we are followers of Christ, and we are all called to live according to God’s law; we are called to live a life of service to God and our fellow man. But sometimes, in the midst of life and our shortcomings, we fall off course with God and have trouble hearing God’s voice.

There are times in life when God will make us wait. In those periods, He wants to get our attention. He may be trying to speak to you about a situation occurring in your life, or He may know the timing of what we’re requesting just isn’t right. When life seems to be running the smoothest during those periods, it’s easy to forget to call on God. When we are requesting something in life from God, it’s hard to be patient because we want our prayers answered right then.
