Red heat alert sparks school closures across Devon as temperatures soar

Classrooms have fallen silent, lessons have been cut short and some pupils have been told to stay at home as soaring temperatures force widespread disruption across schools in the South West. Temperatures across parts of Devon and Cornwall are forecast to exceed 30C, with the UK Health Security Agency issuing a red heat-health alert for the South West from Wednesday, June 24 until Thursday, June 25. A Met Office amber extreme heat warning has also been issued for Devon.
