'Ideological' VNI West axe risks $12bn in projects

Energy experts have identified at least $12 billion worth of wind, solar and battery projects in northern and north-west Victoria put at risk by the Victorian opposition’s promise to axe the $7.6 billion VNI West transmission project. The projects include $9 billion of wind, more than $2 billion of battery storage and at least $1.2 billion of solar developments that would be served by VNI West, running from north west of Ballarat via Kerang in Victoria’s north to the NSW grid, should it be built.

Industry bands together to catch up on consumer energy resources

Australia’s energy networks, retailers and the market operator have banded together to push forward with common infrastructure to expand the NSW/ACT emergency solar backstop nationally. The Smart Connect project, which aimed to bring together industry to agree a nationally consistent approach to integrating consumer energy resources, is now looking to the new consumer energy resources technical regulator to help underpin its agreed priorities.
