Just before midnight on 8 October 2016, the day of the parliamentary elections, a group of men stormed into a polling station in Jikhashkari, a village in Western Georgia. The station was closed for the counting of votes, but the attackers were able to get past the police guards and into the polling station. There were at least four police officers present in and around the station, while other units were nearby.

My husband was kidnapped on the streets of Tbilisi and ended up in an Azerbaijani jail cell. Four months on, I’ve got no answers — only more questions. Four months have now passed since my husband, the Azerbaijani investigative journalist Afgan Mukhtarli, was abducted from Tbilisi and illegally delivered into the hands of the Azerbaijani government. Initially, this case was investigated by Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.
