Liam Maloney’s Biography

Liam Maloney is a documentary photographer and videographer based in Toronto. As a journalist, he covers stories in the Middle East and East Africa in addition to reporting on domestic issues. His clients include The Guardian, Foreign Policy, Mother Jones, Maclean's, National Post, Hazlitt, CBC, Vice, The National, NFB, Discovery, ROB, Wondereur, UNHCR, the White Ribbon Campaign and more. His work has been exhibited across Canada in large-format outdoor installations.

Maloney was a nominee for the World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass and a participant in the prestigious Eddie Adams Barnstorm workshop, was a finalist for the Hot Docs Lindalee Tracey Award and has been nominated for a National Magazine Award. He won a Gold Medal at the 2011 COPA. He is RISC-certified in Battlefield Medical Response and properly equipped for work in hostile environments, and is a member of the Frontline Freelance Network. A central theme emerging in his work is the idea of home and what it means to those who have been displaced.
